A process for the separation of (2R, 3R)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4- dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-pentan-3- ol from an equimolar mixture of the (2R, 3R) and (2S, 3S) isomers, comprises preparing a warm solution of the mixed isomers and (+)-10-camphorsulphonic acid in dry toluene containing glacial acetic acid, allowing the solution to cool, collecting the (+)-10- camphorsulphonic acid salt of (2R, 3R)- 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2- (1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-pentan-3-ol which crystallises out, decomposing the salt with water and isolating the (2R, 3R) 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2- (1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-pentan-3-ol. The (2R, 3R) compound is essentially a plant fungicide and the (2S, 3S) compound is essentially a plant growth regulator.
