The heat recovery unit comprises a heat transfer element having inner and outer corrugated walls defined by truncated cones arranged coaxially successively. The cones are rigidly connected between by larger and smaller bases. The bases of the truncated cones are of gradually decreasing diameter in the direction of the path of the flue gases. The heat transfer element is so constructed as to enable vortex formation and mixing of hot flue gases, to improve the thermal efficiency and promote heat transfer. This arrangement promotes heat transfer, since a high velocity of the flue gases is maintained throughout the entire height of the unit irrespective of a considerable drop in their temperature.
