The heat recovery appts. includes two heat recovery stations between which slag is conveyed. In the first station, a fluid is heated by radiation and pref. also by conduction of heat from the molten slag as it is agitated for granulation and, in the second station, a gas is heated by convection set up by the granulated slag. Agitation of the molten slag at the first station ensures highly efficient heat recovery, because it prevents gradual solidification of the slag from its exposed surface, and the heat content of the slag is practically fully converted into useful heat energy.
