The aeroplane hangars or sports hall comprises inner (10,11,12) and outer (1,2,3) curved beams, the ends of which are supported via joints on abutments (7,8,9) anchored to the ground. At least three inner curved beams have their convex surfaces directed upwards and arranged in a star shape around a central node (13). Each lobe (15,16,17) of the structure contains a criss-cross network of cables which extend between the inner and outer beams below an imaginary line joining the tops of the outer beams.
