A nip padding mangle comprising a pair of rollers in a horizontal plane for impregnating textile material with a fluid which is contained in the valley between the two rollers has a device for separating the boundary layer of air from the fabric immediately before it reaches the padding zone. The sepg. device consists of a suction nozzle or a doctor blade extending across the full width of the material and in close proximity to the surface on one or both sides of the material. The device counteracts the reduction in wetting speed at high material feed rates by removing the boundary layer which prevents rapid contact between the fluid and the material in high-speed operation, and enables high processing speeds to be employed without loss of wetting efficiency.
