An artificial offshore island for deposition on the legs of a support structure, resting on the sea bed, which extend to just above sea level, is installed by using a pontoon to float the platform complete with its superstructure to site and by flooding the pontoon enough to lower the platform on auxiliary bearings at the top of the ferro-concrete or prestressed concrete legs. The legs are successively made higher, simultaneously with the raising of the platform until the final height of 15 - 25m above sea level is reached. This procedure is less costly and is less dependant on weather conditions.
