Mixer for viscous materials such as bitumen and asphalt has a vertical shaft with a few blades at the bottom which move between stationary blades, protruding from the tank walls. The bottom blades have forward inclined scraper plates attached to their leading edge to keep the domes bottom clear. Power consumption is reduced and the mixing time can be decreased if the leading edge to which a scraper is attached is a radial line from the centre of the vertical shaft.
