摘要
A nuclear reactor is housed in a pressure vessel entirely built up of hollow cast iron blocks: each block has orthotropic elasticity. Pref., the pressure vessel is built up of layers of the blocks, each of segmental form. Individual blocks are pref. composed of (horizontal)panels or plates (26) connected together by transverse webs(24). The thickness of the horizontal plates is several times that of the vertical connecting webs. Used for a nuclear pressure vessel having a single vault to contain the core. The arrangement results in the most uniform possible distribution of stress and strain, esp. at the inner face of the vessel, to which the liner is fitted.
