The system is intended to fire a heavy-duty boiler with pulverised coal. The burner opens into the boiler furnace. The combustion rate a very high calorific rate per cu.metre per hour. A mixture comprising 75 to 85% brown coal and 15 to 25% anthracite, both pulverised is used as fuel. The flow speed of the gases and/or fuel particles at the burner nozzle is at least 12 metres per second. The particle size of the brown coal dust can be less than 0.5mm, and that of 90% of the anthracite less than 20 microns. Fresh pulverised anthracite can be used for the mixture.
