The outer cladding fastening system is intended particularly for tanks with outer thermal insulation. It comprises spacers secured to support rails, extending along the tank meridian. The spacers retain between them and between thin top strips the edges of cover sheet metal plates, forming the cladding. The spacers are shaped as angular brackets, to whose free flanges are positively coupled the support rails. The latter have each shanks, protruding at right angles and forming abutments for the edges of the cladding plates. Each has a middle strip with T-shaped end section and downwards bent ends. Over these strips the top spacer strips, of inverted U-shape, can be snap-fitted.
