Improvement of fertility in artificially inseminated animals - by intra:uterine infusion of components deficient in the genital secretion and/or antagonists of components present in excess (AT 15.6.81)
Improvement of fertility in artificially inseminated animals - by intra:uterine infusion of components deficient in the genital secretion and/or antagonists of components present in excess (AT 15.6.81)
Use of equilibrating agents in the fertilisation of mammals in order to improve reproduction is new. The equilibrating agents contain effective amounts of (a) those components absent from the genital tract secretions of oestrous but infertile females but present in the genital tract secretions of oestrous and fertile animals in the same locality and/or (b) substances which tender inactive components present in excess in the genital tract secretions of estrous but infertile animals. The method is based on the finding that the genital tract secretions of oestrous but infertile animals differ in composition from the genital tract secretions of oestrous and fertile animals, showing in particular a deficiency in enzyme activators and/or substrates and an excess of calcium and/or magnesium ions. As enzyme-activating agents, the equilibrating agents pref. contain zinc, selenium, copper, iodine, iron and/or cobalt ions. As enzyme substrates, the agents pref. contain fats or fat-like substances, carbohydrates or proteins. As components to bind excess calcium and/or magnesium ions, the agents pref. contain chelating agents, esp. polyaminocarboxylic acids or their salts. Process is used for improving the success rate of artificial insemination of animals under conditions of intensive rearing.
