The equip. protects the environment against leakage from a flanged pipe joint. It comprises an annular shell between the flanges coupled together, and beaded over along the edges so as to fit in counterbores in the flanges. The ID of the shell matches the OD of the joint faces, while externally it is small enough to fit inside the coupling bolts. The shell can be a single closed ring or alternatively, split radially into two or more identically-shaped parts, whose ends overlap.
