The invention relates to a friction reducing lubricating oil additive comprising the product formed by boronating a N-hydroxymethyl aliphatic C12-C36 hydrocarbyl succinimide.;The N-hydroxymethyl aliphatic C12-C36 hydrocarbyl succinimide may be formed by reacting the corresponding succinic anhydride with ammonia to form the corresponding succinimide and reacting the succinimide with formaldehyde.;The invention also relates to an additive package comprising the boronated product as above and one or more conventional additives and, of course, lubricating oil compositions containing the additive (or additive package) are included in the invention.
