The foundation system comprises beams on supporting members. Each comprises a flat portion (9) with one or more integral coupling portions (10) extending upwards from it. At each end of the beam is a hole (8), open at both top and bottom, in which this coupling portion fits. There can be two parallel rows of coupling portions on the member, the centre distance being the same in both directions. Each beam can comprise a pair of parallel sidewalls, joined at the ends and in between by cross-walls at regular intervals.
