The insulating material for the protection against fire comprising a granular mass of which the structure changes endothermally when a maximum temperature allowed is reached, is used in fire doors and in security cabinets intended to preserve heat sensitive objects. The granular mass is wrapped into a carrier body of porous material having good wetting characteristics in comparison with the granular mass when the latter is in a melting state. The granular mass may be advantageously formed of granular mineral fibers but also with a sucking filler material, preferably mixed with mineral fibers. The granular mass is appropriately distributed in the carrier body distributed in the carrier body so as to obtain a predetermined temperature gradient. Sealing walls may also be provided in the space occupied by the insulation for fire protection.
