1465926 Making printing plates electrophotographically; etching HOECHST AG 30 April 1974 [2 May 1973] 18819/74 Headings B6C and B6J [Also in Division G2] A printing plate or printed circuit board, having a pattern of raised and depressed areas on it, is made by forming an electrostatic charge image on a resistive or photoconductive layer, overlaying a substrate, developing with a toner which without fixing renders the image areas of the layer insoluble in, and resistant to wetting by, a liquid agent and removing the non-image areas of the layer by application of the liquid agent. Preferably the layer is photoconductive, and includes a resin soluble in an aqueous or alcoholic solvent. Development is with a wax, paraffin or bitumen toner, dispersed in an insulating liquid carrier. Removal of the layer by, e.g. a 5% aqueous solution of phosphoric acid or an alcohol with sodium metasilicate or ethanolamine reveals a metal, plastics material or metallized plastics material substrate, which may be etched. Photoconductors, resins, substrate materials, toners, carrier liquids and layerremoving liquids which can be used are listed.
