Highway hazard marker post which yields under impact load - has top and bottom parts of reinforced concrete connected by plastics tube, pref. made of PVC
The hazard marker post is used to define the edges of highways etc. and may incorporate reflectors, comprising a top part connected to a bottom part. The connection is relatively weak in the structural sense and yields under high impact loadings, the arrangement minimising the damage suffered by the top part. The two parts are made of reinforced concrete and the connection may use a bar of weak material such as a round hollow plastics section pref. made of PVC secured in holes on the post axis. Relative rotation of the two parts may be prevented by polygonal section tenon projecting from one end face to house into a matching socket in the abutting end face, the reflectors being incorporated on the top part.
