PURPOSE:To reproduce and control an optical three-dimensional picture by an electric signal, by forming a hologram by synthesizing surface acoustic waves. CONSTITUTION:On an elastic surface wave substrate 1, such as a glass substrate having a thin-film piezoelectric material, elastic surface wave transducers 2 are formed so that emitted elastic surface waves are all overlapped each other in a recording area. Then, an electric signal differing in frequency as predetermined is applied to each transducer 2 to form a phase hologram in the area 3. To obtain a three-dimensional virtual picture or real picture from the phase hologram like this, the reverse or top side of the hologram is irradiated with light.
