摘要
Sulphur is prepd. from Claus off-gases by (a) raising the temp. of the off-gases 175 degrees C, (b) reducing the sulphur dioxide to hydrogen sulphide by passing over a sulphided Gp. VI-VIII catalyst on an inorg. oxide support in the presence of a hydrogen-contg. gas,(c) cooling the formed mixt. (d) removing at least a part of the water, (e) passing the formed gaseous mixt. through a basic aq. soln. to absorb at least a part of the hydrogen sulphide, and (f) converting the absorbed hydrogen sulphide in this soln. to elementary sulphur by oxidn. in the presence of a catalyst. The temp. increase in stage (a) is produced by passing the Claus off-gases through a direct burner in which a fuel is burned with an O2-contg. gas, the H2-contg. gas for stage (b) being directly introduced into this burner. Gives efficient sulphur recovery without risk of explosions.
