Device is for distributing bread dough pieces into individual pockets of a conveyor of a bakery proving chamber. The device comprises a tubular chute through which each dough piece in turn is gravity-fed from a supply conveyor to a pocket of the proving chamber. Near its upper end, the chute is suspended from a pivot the horizontal axis of which intersects the axis of the chute a right angles. The chute is automatically swung about its pivot to discharge into each pocket in turn of a line of pockets across the proving conveyor, which is halted while each line is filled. The feed conveyor is timed to deliver one dough piece for each angular position of the chute. The proving chamber conveyor is timed to advance an empty line of pockets beneath the chute each time the previous line is filled. Pref. the pivotal axis of the chute lies in the median, longitudinal plane of the proving conveyor. Angular displacement of the chute is pref. effected by a reversible horizontal chain fitted with a peg which engages a slot in a plate integral with the chute. Used for loading bread dough pieces into pockets of the conveyor of a bakery proving chamber. Transfers of dough pieces between balling up and proving stages is now fully mechanised to eliminate manual work. This is effected with an inexpensive yet reliable system which does not subject the dough to excessive working.
