Plastic material with high thermal conductivity and good mechanical strength are comprised of (a) a polyolefin component comprising 50-80 wt.% high-density polyethylene and 20-50% ethylene-propylene copolymer, and (b) at least 50 wt.% w.r.t. (a) of carbon black with a specific surface of at least 100 m2/g. Pref. the compsn. contains ca 80 wt.% carbon black with a specific surface of ca 250 m2/g. The compsn. pref. also contains an antioxidant (esp. a mixt. of alkylated polyphenols and thiodipropionates) and a coupling agent to improve bonding between the polymer and filler, esp. 1-2% w.r.t. total polymer of an organic titanate. Prods. have excellent resistance to ageing and good thermal conductivity. They are esp. useful in the prodn. of heat exchange surfaces, e.g. for domestic air/fluid heat exchangers, and for encapsulating heat storage devices.
