Adhesive layer on an article to be subsequently bonded to a support is treated for storage and application by spraying the adhesive layer with an aerosol plasticiser to form a non-adherent, protective netlike microfilm layer on the adhesive. Prior to use the article is pressed on the adhesive side with e.g. a scraper or a brush to cause rupture of the microfilm and release the adhesive. Specifically, the plasticising material is a prod. of low solids content e.g. a 1-2% soln. of PVA, PVAc, PVP in 98% Gay Lussac ethanol. The article is partic. an automobile registration plate. The adhesive is protected and non tacky during the storage period but regains its full adhesivity after application.
