The two fixed tread steps, and an apron piece turning about a horizontal spindle, are incorporated in an entrance assembly for an urban transport vehicle, esp. on rails, as in 2620783. The swivelling cover spindle (2) is indirectly driven by a pneumatic piston and cylinder unit (50, with a piston rod, protruding from a hinged cylinder, driving the apron spindle (12) via a compensating lever. This spindle drives the parallel cover spindle via spur wheels. Springs (55a) provide weight compensation for the apron piece on the apron spindle, and step cover (3). They have one end joined to the spindles, and the other end linked to the housing (57) via adjusting screws (63a). Drive is largely released from loading by compensation of weight forces, and the whole can be kept operative in the event of drive failure.
