The unit is intended for demonstrating effects of the special theory of relativity such as time dilatation, Lorentz contraction, relativity of simultaneity, velocity addition, constancy of light velocity. It comprises two coordinate systems (S,S'), one above the other, which are each movable (speed v, by z1,z2) and each contain at least three equidistant clocks which are driven via gears engaged by a double-sided tooth rack itself longitudinally driven (speed c, by z3) to simulate a light beam. The ratio of the number of gear teeth in the lower (S) to the upper (S') system equals the square root of (1+v/c)/(1-v/c).
