An electrical voltage or phase tester in the form of a screwdriver indicates an electrical voltage or enables alternating voltage network phase testing. It contains one or more Darlington transistor circuits, an optical indicator and a replaceable battery power supply. It has a partic. high internal impedance. This reduces the test current and gives added protection for the operator. A clear indication of the presence of a voltage is ensured. A printed circuit board fits into slots inside the insulated handle of the screwdriver. The printed circuit board (5) carries a multiple pin plug (7) at its end nearer the screwdriver blade (6) which grps the lade with a projecting clamp arrangement (8). This ensures the electrical contact for the isolation amplifier circuit fs made. The battery is held in place by spring contacts.
