The infinitely variable gearbox for machine and vehicle drives has two curved rollers (7, 9) interconnected by a swinging roller (14) so as to vary the speed ratio between the curved rollers. These rotate on in-line input and output shafts (3, 4) and the axis (18) of the third roller is formed by a spindle which is swung about an axis formed by a spindle (12) at right angles to the in-line shafts. The contact surface of the third roller is shaped to maintain contact between the curved faces of the other two rollers to give optimum output. The relative proportions of all these faces are given by a set of formulae which relate the distance between the in-line axes and the pivot point formed by the pivot axis (12), the radius of the swinging roller and its mid point coordinates.
