The arrangement for dividing the path of motion of a body into partial lengths uses a measurement transducer sensing distance markers as it moves along synchronously with the body. The transducer produces two signals with a fixed relationship, esp. a sine and cosine voltage, for each marker. The resolution of the distance measurement is increased w.r.t similar arrangements by use of a circuit which phase shifts the signals by 180 degrees. This si done by inversion and results in four, i.e twice as many, signals with a fixed relationship. The four signal leads are connected to the circuit output via electronic switches. The switches are successively closed as the minima of the associated signals occur and opened at the maxima. The control instructions are derived by the controller from the inverted signals.
