The lateral-oar propulsion system for boats, surfboards, waterskis etc. has each oar free to pivot about an axis parallel to the craft centreline and each oar blade pivotable about a vertical axis. Each blade (7) is rigidly fixed to a loom (6) secured to, or free to rotate about its longitudinal axis in, a rowlock unit (5). Each unit comprises two plates fixed in parallel (8,9), spaced to accommodate an outrigger bar (2) and an (inboard) loom length (4) fixed to the other roughly at right angles. Removable pins (10) hold the rowlock units on the outrigger bars which embody stop-lugs (11).
