摘要
The parent patent described the mfr. of high tensile steels, esp. spring steels. Improvement comprises the use of an unalloyed-or a low alloy-steel with a restricted C. content, and esp. contg. =0.33%C. Directly after leaving a hot rolling mill, the steel is subjected to a multistage, intermittent quenching treatment, so martensite is formed which extends into the core of the rolled rod. The steel rod is next descaled, and is then cold drawn without any prior treatment, followed by using the rod to make a final prod., esp. helical coil springs, which are tempered. The main patent used a similar quenching process to obtain a martensitic structure, which was then tempered by induction heating. But the induction heating interferes with continuous high speed rolling, and is eliminated in the addn.
