A device for testing material pair adhesive properties is applicable to precision assemblies such as keyboards using elastomer damping elements and where excessive adhesion between surfaces degrades performance. It enables examination of different influencing parameters on adhesion. One part of the combination test piece is clamped to a force measurement device whilst the other has an attached rod with a stop to which defined shock forces can be applied in the separation direction. The adhesive force and the time history of the separation process are recorded. The defined shock force is applied by a weight gravity consisting of a trolley through which the rod passes moving under gravity from rest down an incline. The force may be adjusted by varying the distance of travel, magnitude of a counter-wt. etc.
