The sound attenuator is designed for use with large transformers. It consists of a hood enclosing the entire transformer and having no ventilation holes. The walls of the hood are made of a good thermal conductor - i.e. steel-reinforced concrete. The transformer has its own reflux liquid cooling system. The walls of the transformer and the walls of the hood are arranged so that locally large air temperature differences and turbulent air conditions prevail in the region between transformer and hood.
