The measuring method is for the relative position and/or speed of two objects w.r.t. each other and/or to a common reference system, e.g. under the ground, according to magnitude and direction using optical-electrical measuring equipment. The latter includes imaging optics, at least one correlation raster arranged near the image plane of the optics and at least one photo-electric receiver system. A calculating system evaluates the measuring signals that are generated. At least two spatial location images, defined by measuring direction coordinates of the object are produced. The images are at different distances w.r.t. the object to be measured. Movements of these images w.r.t. at least one optical correlation raster are used to generate proportional electrical signals of different frequencies.
