Automatic device for optimal adjustment of the ignition advance of a positive-ignition engine. The device comprises an assembly for detecting the possible presence of rattling during combustion, this assembly being sensitive to engine vibrations, exclusively during a fraction of the combustion phase corresponding to a selected angular interval of the rotation of the motor shaft. Reversible means are actuated by the detection assembly and connected to the ignition circuit to cause an ignition delay when a certain number of consecutive clicks are detected. A member for locating the rotation of the motor shaft produces electrical pulses corresponding to successive angular positions regularly spaced from the motor shaft. The reversible means comprise a first totalizing member producing a signal after totalization of a fixed number of engine cycles, a second totalizing member producing a signal after totalization of a fixed number of engine knocking, each of these members having a terminal output connected to reset terminals of the two totalizing organs, electric down-counters connected to these last two organs and supplying an advance adjustment signal, function of the difference between the respective numbers of signals produced by the organs and an ignition circuit control connected to the counting-down counting and tracking of the rotation of the engine shaft.
