Solar water heater with pyramidal reservoir - has convection currents established under influence of solar radiation causing hottest water to collect at apex (PT 12.12.80)
The solar water heater consists of a reservoir (1) constructed in the form of a regular pyramid where the base (3) may be circular, of polygonal. The reservoir is supported on a well insulated base and is covered in a single, double or treble glazed enclosure (11) such that the intermediate volume (12) is air tight. This volume is evacuated via the tube (13) which is connected to a vacuum pump. Cold water flows into the reservoir through the inlet tube (4). Water is drawn off through the orifices (6) of the draw-off pipe (5). Convection currents produced under the influence of solar radiation ensure that a uniform temperature distribution is established in the mass of fluid. The higher temp. fluid tends towards the apex of the reservoir.
