Tuyere for injecting stirring gas into molten metal - where gas flows through narrow annular gap between refractory plug and conical ring, so rapid wear of tuyere is avoided
The tuyere is mounted on a vessel used for metallurgical treatment, and consists of a conical ring closed on its wide end except for an axial gas inlet pipe. A high quality refractory plug is inserted in the ring; and an annular gap is formed between the plug and the ring via spacers. The gas entering the ring via the inlet pipe flows preferentially along the annular gap and thus into the melt. The spacers pref. consist of a circular row of thin sheet metal strips located longitudinally inside the conical ring, which is also pref. made of sheet metal. The axial gas inlet pipe is pref. fed via a spiral tube passing through the outer wall of the vessel. The tuyere has a working life corresp. with the life of the refractory lining in the vessel. If metal enters the gas pipe, the spiral causes its rapid solidification.
