Determn. of sex of babies prior to birth - by obtaining a saliva sample from the mother and testing for 17-keto-steroid(s) using Zimmerman reagent
Determn. of the sex of a baby before birth, comprises obtg. a secretion, pref. saliva, from the expectant mother during the fourth to seventh months of pregnancy, on a support contg. traces of a proteic substance so as to fix to the support, opt. present 17-keto steroid metabolites, whose presence is correlated with the birth of a male child. The support is pref. porous, usually a filter paper disc. The proteic substance is usually on a albuminoic acid, pref. a parapeptone such as meat pancreatic peptone buffered at pH 5-6.
