The sighting system for a weapon has a periodic lens arrangement and the sighting system at right angles to it, with a light source directed through it onto a prism between two of the lenses. This includes a reticle (4) which has two plates carryin two luminous transparent lines (41, 42) across it, at right angles to each other. The central region is restricted by a mask having two edges (72) which slope away from each other towards the bottom corners. A further portion of the sight has a fixed part (9) and a moving part (41) which is raised vertically by a mechanism overhead. These members are located between lenses, with one lens moved towards and away from the prism by a further mechanism alongside.
