Analog signal processor for sound studio equipment - operates with digital signal transmission to give low noise levels, by using feedback loops with exponential characteristics
The objective of the analogue signal processing stage is to modify the signal passed to the analogue to digital converter so that the signal to noise ratio at low signal levels is at least as low as at high levels. A function converter (1) is placed in series with the analogue to digital converter (2). This function changing unit comprises an operational amplifier (01) with two parallel exponential feedback loops (E1, E2) connected to the inverting input. The exponential elements have reciprocal values and opposite sign, and are in series with resistors (R1, R2) connected to the amplifier output. The circuit arrangement ensures that the scaling factor for the signal gives, for both normal and max. level of analogue signal (x), a max. for the quality factor or signal to noise ratio.
