The inductive heating system has the workpiece (4) acting as feedback path between a coil (2) connected to the input of an amplifier (1) and a coil (3) coupled to the output of the amplifier. The two coils are inductively coupled by the workpiece. The output coil is used to heat the workpiece. Alternately, the input coil is replaced by a detector sensitive to magnetic fields. With the gain of the amplifier fixed, the frequency of the feedback oscillations, the input voltage and the output current vary directly with the electromagnetic properties of the workpiece, allowing these properties to be investigated in a simple manner.
