摘要
Method for the redn. of the beverage-soluble Fe (BSI) content of a diatomite or perlite filter aid (I) consists of the treatment of granular (I) with tannic acid (II) and/or gallic acid (III). Treated (I) have low BSI levels, but keep normal filtration and clarification properties. Thus beer, wine or fruit juices etc. filtered through treated (I) contain low Fe levels, and do not have shortened shelf lives or altered taste. In an example, diatomite (45-55 ppm BSI) was treated with 17% aq. (II) (3.3 lb of (II)/ton), when BSI levels were reduced by 70%.
