The method uses the Barkhausen effect produced in a sample by generation of a quasi-statioanry AC magnetic field. The Barkhausen effect is detected by inductive pickups. The ultrasonic emission signals or acoustic Barkhausen effect induced in a sample by the magnetic Barkhausen effect due to irreversible magnetisation processes are measured. The pickups are connected to amplifiers and filter networks which process the magnetic and acoustic signals. The processed signals are then fed to an X, Y coordinate display. The display is connected to a bipolar net device feeding the magnet.
