The tunnelling machine which can be advanced continuously by sequential operation of its advancing cylinders, has a rotary cutting head (10) connected by two moving body portions (12, 13) to a rear assembly (22) which acts as a supply unit. The cylinders are arranged in two sets so as to extend radially from the inner body portion (2) and outer portion (13) respectively. One set has front cylinders (16) and rear cylinders (17) which are extended and retracted in sequence with front (18) and rear (19) cylinders of the other set and with the sliding movements of the two body portions so as to advance the machine without interruption. These sliding portions are designed so that they cannot rotate.
