The surface of the earth is scanned by an aircraft of space craft. The scanning system uses a sharply focussing aerial whose beam illuminations on the surface circles with dia. (d). The aerial beam is continuously moved on a conical path, so that the surface is scanned along a meandering cycloid, i. e an approx. circle shape linearly moved forward at the craft speed. The aerial beam width, the rotation period (To) and craft speed (v) satisfy the equation d = vTo.
