PURPOSE:To maintain the total quantity of sludge in the system at a constant value, outputs from MLSS concentration meters in an aeration tank are operated to calculate not only the total quantity of sludge at present but the quantity of newly formed sludge which is incoming. CONSTITUTION:The 4th calculator 17 provides a quantity of newly formed sludge by operating each input from the 1st calculator 9 on sludge quantity, from the flow meter 14 on flow rate of incoming sewage, from the concentration meter 15 on concentration of organic material, and from the concentration meter 16 on SS concentration. The 5th calculator 18 provides an instruction load signal to extract surplus sludge, by operating each input from the 1st calculator 9 on sludge quantity, from the target setter 10 on target value, and from the 4th calculator 17 on quantity of formed sludge. The 6th calculator 19 outputs the target value for the flow rate of surplus sludge to be extracted, by operating inputs from the 5th calculator 18 on the instruction load signal for surplus sludge extraction, and from the concentration meter 8 on surplus sludge concentration.
