PURPOSE:Nb-containing non thermal refining high tensile steel, excellent in toughness of large heat input welding heat-affected zone, obtained by adding a specific quantity of Nb or moreover, Ni, Mo, Ti, V etc. to low carbon steel. CONSTITUTION:Nb;0.01-0.15% is contained in low carbon steel containing C 0.10%, Mn;0.6-1.8%, Si0.1%. At this time, ratio of Nb/Mn is made within the limits of 0.25-0.15. Or, one or more than two kinds of Ni;0.3-1.0%, Mo;0.15- 0.8% are added moreover. Or, in stead of Ni, Mo, one or two kinds of Ti;0.01- 0.03%, V;0.01-0.2%, are contained and ratio of (Nb+V)/Mn is made at 0.025- 0.15. Or, one or two kinds of Ni, Mo, Ti, V, are contained other than Nb within the above mentioned limits and ratio of (Nb+V)/Mn is made at 0.025-0.15, also. 60-80kg/mm2 of strength is maintained even when carrying out more than 30KJ/cm large heat input welding.
