The fire-stop is of refractory earthenware, and seals off the area of the fire. It is particularly for use in ventilation conduits, and rubbish chutes. It can be of refractory bricks, resistant to high temperatures, and can be without any metal components, or mechanical, electrical or electronic devices liable to breakdowns or to be affected by heat. The sealing component can be supported by plastics material which melts at low temperature.
