A loudspeaker system includes a columnar enclosure (1) containing at least one low frequency speaker (3) arranged at a distance from the closed lower end of the enclosure (1) which is from 1/4 to 1/2 of the overall height of the enclosure. A piezo electric high frequency speaker (6) is arranged in the upper part of the enclosure. The lower end of the enclosure (1) is closed by a foot (2), and the open upper end (4) has a plug of foamed material (5). A second low frequency speaker may be provided. The height of the enclosure is desirably three quarters of the lowest wavelength to be emitted. In order to increase linearity of the bass response curve and to reduce resonance the interior of the enclosure is filled with glass wool or the like which is compact at the lower end of the enclosure and the looseness of which increases upwardly.
