Prepn. of dry, oral, prolonged-release compsns. by incorporation of fenspiride, pyribedil or their salts with on or more water-insol. inert diluents having a low compressibility index, and a cellulose ether binding agent which is insoluble in water and non-polar organic solvents, in presence of a solvent or solvent mixt. in which the binding agent is soluble, then converting the mixt. into the final dosage form. Progressive liberation of active constituents, over periods of more than five hrs. Fenspiride gives long-acting control of cough and pyribedil controls disorders of peripheral circulation. A typical coated tablet contained 80 mg. of fenspiride hydrochloride mixed with talc and ethyl cellulose which was granulated with ethanol and dried. The granules were mixed with Mg stearate, compressed and the tablet cores were coated and wax polished.
