A type of bridge (3) is fitted on top of the tank, with rear access steps (4). One one side of the bridge are hinge pins (5) with supports (6) in them. One support (7) is connected to a double acting hydraulic ram with its body (10) hinged on the bridge and the rod (12) on the support (6). The ram is controlled from a point (15) which is easily accessible. The support assembly can be raised in the form of a parallelogram when personnel have to mount on the top of the tank. This gives them a protective railing on either side.
