The explosive item safety device allows the continuity of the pyrotechnic process to be interrupted, and then resumed after a set time has elapsed. Combustion proceeds via a throat, between whose faces microscopic balls are inserted. The faces of the throat (4, 5) are fixed, and the balls (7) form an obstacle to the transmission of the detonating wave. They can be removed from between the throat faces in a predetermined period, and the distance between the faces is such that in the absence of balls the wave is transmitted through the throat. The balls can be accommodated in a chamber with a plugged filling port and a calibrated discharge orifice.
